CHIROPRACTIC FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
On this page you can read some commonly asked questions about chiropractic care.
The reasons people consult Chiropractors are many and varied. They include back pain, postural distortions, headaches, numbness, tingling, neck pain and more.
Others come in simply for a regular spinal check up. Bear in mind that the aim of chiropractic though is not to treat any of these (or any other) ailments. The aim Is to get your nervous system and hence your body functioning at it’s full potential.
The main benefit of chiropractic care is having a spine and nervous system that is functioning at its best. This gives your body the best chance to adapt, repair and regenerate and so can have effects on many different aspects of your health.
If you have a sore neck you may have a subluxation in your spine. If this is the case adjusting it will give your neck the best chance to heal. In fact one study from the British Medical Journal showed manual therapy to be less costly and more effective than physiotherapy or general practitioner care for neck pain.
Leg pain can come from a variety of sources. One common cause is interference to your nervous system, especially those nerves coming from the lower back. Your chiropractor can help assess your lower spine and your leg for signs of nerve interference, and if present can use adjustments to help remove it.
You won’t “need” a massage as well; however massage has its own health benefits that may compliment any chiropractic care that you receive. Your chiropractor will be able to give you advice on any lifestyle changes or other modalities that may suit your needs.
Chiropractic care is safe and effective for people of all ages. Chiropractors see children from hours old to 90 years young and has been shown for over 100 years to be very safe and effective for children.
The answer to this will depend on your goals. If your aim is to remove pain, this can take as little as one visit depending on the problem and your body’s ability to heal. If your aim is to restore the stability in your spine then this might take several months. If your aim is to restore your spine to a point where it is functioning at its best then this may take months to years.
Once again this will depend on what your goals are and what you classify as results. As previously stated pain relief may happen relatively quickly while other results like improved immune function or altered posture may take longer.
